– The European long-distance path E4 begins at the Pyr Mountains, crosses the Alps and through Yugoslavia reaches Florina where the greek part of the path begins. From Florina, the E4 path continues across continental Greece, reaches Gytheio in Peloponesos and from there virtually reaches Kastelli in Crete.

– The famous plateau of Omalos is surrounded by the high crowns of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) at 1,040 to 1,250 meters and is just 38 km from the town of Chania. The plateau of Omalos is the physical border and “meeting” point among 3 from the 5 counties of the prefecture of Chania, namely Kydonia, Sfakia and Selino.

– The gorge of Samaria is the longest in Europe with total length of 18 kilometers. The width of the gorge ranges from 150 meters at the widest point down to 3 meters at the narrowest. The gorge of Samaria has been proclaimed a national park in order to protect the rare flora and fauna.

The Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency would like to inform you that taking into account the received updated weather forecast of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service for occurrence of rainfall up to 4mm in the National Park of Samaria, as well as the need to achieve the best possible level of safety for visitors, workers and the natural environment of the National Park, on Thursday October 31th 2024, the Gorge of Samaria will remain closed from both entrances. It is reminded that according to the Rules and Regulation of the National Park of Samaria, the visitation period ends on October 31st of each year.
